This bill amends existing Iowa law regarding the suspension of a person's driver's license for unlawful or fraudulent use. It mandates that the Department of Transportation (DOT) must suspend a driver's license for six months if the individual unlawfully or fraudulently used or permitted an unlawful or fraudulent use of their license, specifically in violation of sections 321.216, 321.216A, 321.216B, or 321.216C. The bill also prohibits the issuance of a temporary restricted license during the suspension period, meaning individuals cannot apply for such a license due to hardship or lack of alternative transportation options.

Additionally, the bill includes provisions for the expungement of suspension records, requiring the DOT to expunge information regarding the suspension from a person's driving record after the suspension period has expired, specifically for violations of sections 321.216B and 321.216C. The bill maintains the existing requirement for a $20 reinstatement fee following the suspension period. The new regulations will take effect for suspensions occurring on or after July 1, 2027.
