This bill amends existing Iowa law regarding the suspension of a person's driver's license for unlawful or fraudulent use. It mandates that the Department of Transportation (DOT) must suspend a driver's license for six months if the individual unlawfully or fraudulently used or permitted an unlawful or fraudulent use of their license, specifically in violation of sections 321.216, 321.216A, 321.216B, or 321.216C. The bill also prohibits the issuance of a temporary restricted license during the suspension period, meaning individuals cannot apply for such a license due to hardship or lack of alternative transportation options.

Additionally, the bill includes provisions for expunging suspension records from a person's driving record after the suspension period has expired, extending this requirement to violations of section 321.216C, which pertains to underage use of tobacco products. The reinstatement of a suspended license will be possible after the suspension period, contingent upon the payment of a $20 reinstatement fee. The new regulations will take effect for suspensions occurring on or after July 1, 2027.
