This bill amends various sections of the Iowa Code to establish reimbursement provisions for security expenses incurred by members of the general assembly and statewide elected officials. Specifically, it allows these officials, including the governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, auditor of state, treasurer of state, secretary of agriculture, and attorney general, to receive a one-time reimbursement of up to $5,000 for the installation of a home security system, as well as a monthly reimbursement of up to $100 for the ongoing operation of such a system.

The bill mandates that all reimbursements must be supported by receipts submitted to the appropriate administrative officer or the director of the department of administrative services. Notably, the reimbursement provision for members of the general assembly will take effect with the convening of the 92nd General Assembly in January 2027. The bill aims to enhance the security of elected officials by providing financial support for necessary security measures.
