This bill amends current law to require public schools in Iowa to include specific suicide prevention information on student identification cards. Schools that issue physical or electronic identification cards to students in grades 6 through 12 must include the crisis hotline telephone and text numbers, as well as the internet address for the "your life Iowa" program on physical cards. For electronic identification cards, the internet address must be provided through a link. Additionally, schools may also include this information for students in grade five.
The bill specifies that these requirements apply to student identification cards issued on or after the effective date of the Act. Schools with a supply of unused physical student identification cards are permitted to use those cards before they must comply with the new requirements. This legislation aims to enhance access to mental health resources for students by ensuring that critical information is readily available on their identification cards.
