This bill mandates the director of the Department of Education (DE) to prepare, publish, and submit annual reports to the General Assembly concerning reading and mathematics proficiency among students, as well as the operations of area education agencies. Specifically, the director must report on the reading proficiency of students in kindergarten through grade three and the mathematics proficiency of students in kindergarten through grade six, assessing how well school districts meet the requirements outlined in sections 279.68 and 279.68A. These reports are to be submitted by December 31 each year and made available on the DE's internet site.

Additionally, the bill requires the director to conduct a detailed examination and evaluation of the impact of the 2024 Iowa Acts, chapter 1002, on area education agencies. This report will also be submitted to the General Assembly by December 31 and published online. The inclusion of these new reporting requirements aims to enhance accountability and transparency regarding educational outcomes and the effectiveness of area education agencies in Iowa.
