The University President Selection Reform Act amends the process for selecting presidents of regents institutions in Iowa. The bill mandates that the board shall use a presidential selection committee to recommend the most qualified candidates for the presidency, from which the board must elect a president. The committee is empowered to contract for services to assist in identifying candidates and may utilize funds allocated by the board. Additionally, the identities of candidates under consideration will remain confidential unless all voting members of the committee agree to disclose them.
The composition of the presidential selection committee is also redefined. It will consist of five voting members who are members of the board, along with several nonvoting members, including a student, a faculty senate member, another employee of the institution, and a member from the community or alumni. This change aims to enhance the selection process by incorporating diverse perspectives while ensuring that the final decision rests with the board.
