This bill amends Section 452A.53 of the Iowa Code to increase the fee for duplicates or other evidence of interstate fuel use tax permits or licenses from fifty cents to one dollar. Under current law, vehicles operating in Iowa with motor fuel, special fuel, or electric fuel acquired from other states must carry proof of the necessary permits or licenses. The bill maintains the requirement for these vehicles to have the appropriate documentation while adjusting the associated fee.
Additionally, the bill reiterates that individuals who do not obtain the required permits or licenses in advance from the Department of Transportation (DOT) are still responsible for paying Iowa fuel taxes based on their fuel consumption while using the state's highways. Violating the existing fuel tax regulations remains a simple misdemeanor, subject to a scheduled fine of $260.
