This bill amends existing laws regarding the conveyance of firearms in or on snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles in Iowa. It removes the current prohibitions that prevent individuals from operating or riding these vehicles with a loaded firearm unless they are on land they own, possess, or rent. Additionally, it eliminates the exceptions that allow nonambulatory persons to carry uncased and unloaded firearms while using these vehicles. The bill also repeals the prohibition against discharging firearms from snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles while hunting, provided the vehicle is not in motion.

Furthermore, the bill repeals Section 483A.36, which previously outlined specific regulations regarding firearms in vehicles on public highways, including the requirement for firearms to be unloaded and contained in a fastened case. The associated fines for conveying an assembled unloaded gun ($35) and a loaded gun ($70) are also removed. Overall, the bill significantly relaxes the restrictions on carrying and using firearms in conjunction with snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles.
