This bill amends Section 299.2 of the Code of Iowa to modify school attendance requirements for children who are either undergoing military entrance processing or are actively engaged in military service. It introduces two new subsections that define these categories: one for military applicants undergoing military entrance processing and another for those engaged in military service.

Under current law, parents or guardians are required to ensure that children of compulsory attendance age attend public or accredited nonpublic schools, or receive private instruction. However, the bill adds exemptions for children in the newly defined categories, allowing them to be excused from these attendance requirements, similar to existing exemptions for other circumstances such as graduation or religious instruction.
