This bill mandates the Department of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services, to establish a working group focused on studying the effects of school-provided technology on students' cognitive functions and academic performance. The working group will consist of various stakeholders, including educators, mental health professionals, and parents of school-age children. Members will be responsible for their own expenses incurred during the group's activities.
The working group is tasked with examining relevant research and will be required to submit a report to the General Assembly by December 31, 2025. This report will include findings and recommendations on best practices for utilizing school-provided technology in educational settings, particularly addressing potential negative impacts on students' social and behavioral development, attention span, mental concentration, and learning abilities.
