This bill amends existing Iowa law to enhance the screening process for children who may be victims of commercial sexual exploitation. It defines commercial sexual exploitation as involving a child in sex or sexually explicit activities in exchange for money, goods, services, or promises thereof. The bill mandates that when a juvenile court receives a complaint regarding a child's delinquent act, the court or its designee must order a screening for commercial sexual exploitation using a standardized, evidence-based, trauma-informed tool.

Additionally, the bill requires the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to screen a child for commercial sexual exploitation if it determines that a report of child abuse constitutes a valid allegation. This screening must also utilize a standardized, evidence-based, trauma-informed tool. The changes aim to ensure that children at risk of exploitation receive appropriate assessments and interventions in a timely manner.
