This bill amends existing laws regarding the post-employment restrictions for certain public officials in Iowa, specifically targeting former statewide elected officials, agency heads, and members of the general assembly. It prohibits these individuals from becoming lobbyists or authorizing lobbying activities for two years after leaving their positions. Additionally, it restricts them from obtaining employment that provides direct advantages related to cases they were involved in during their service, and from being interested in contracts with the state if those contracts were authorized during their last legislative session.

Furthermore, the bill introduces a new section that prevents state and local government agencies from entering contracts or favorably selecting businesses represented by individuals who have served in high-level positions within the past year, provided the contract value exceeds $1,000 and is a direct result of an official act by the individual. Violations of these provisions are classified as serious misdemeanors, which can result in penalties including reprimand, suspension, or dismissal from their position, with fines ranging from $430 to $2,560.
