This bill amends the transportation provisions for pupils participating in open enrollment in Iowa. It modifies the existing law to allow receiving districts with fewer than 2,000 students to send school vehicles into the district of residence of the pupil without any mileage restrictions, provided that the pupil's primary residence is closer to the attendance center in the receiving district than to the assigned attendance center in the sending district. This change eliminates the previous limitation of transporting pupils only within two miles of their residence.
Additionally, the bill revises the transportation rules for receiving districts with 2,000 or more students. Previously, these districts could only send school vehicles two miles or more into the pupil's district of residence. The new language removes this two-mile requirement, allowing these districts to transport pupils regardless of the distance from their primary residence to the attendance center in the receiving district or the assigned center in the sending district, as long as certain specified requirements are met.
