This bill amends the transportation provisions for pupils participating in open enrollment in Iowa. It modifies the existing law to allow receiving districts with fewer than 2,000 students to send school vehicles into the district of residence of the pupil without any mileage restrictions, as long as the pupil's primary residence is closer to the attendance center in the receiving district than to the assigned attendance center in the sending district. This change eliminates the previous limitation of not sending vehicles more than two miles into the district of residence.
Additionally, for receiving districts with an enrollment of 2,000 students or more, the bill removes the requirement that school vehicles could only be sent two miles or more into the district of residence. Instead, these districts can also transport pupils to and from school in the receiving district without any mileage restrictions, provided that certain specified requirements are met. Overall, the bill aims to enhance transportation flexibility for open-enrolled students by removing previous distance limitations.
