The bill establishes a new emeritus license for physicians and surgeons, as well as osteopathic physicians and surgeons, who are at least 60 years old and primarily engaged in supervising and training resident physicians. To obtain this license, applicants must submit a form prescribed by the board of medicine. The emeritus license allows the holder to maintain the same scope of practice as they had previously and is valid for three years, with the option for one renewal.

Notably, the bill exempts emeritus license holders from the requirement to complete continuing education credits to maintain or renew their license. Additionally, the application and renewal fees for the emeritus license are set at half the cost of the standard fees for practicing medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery. The board is tasked with adopting rules for the implementation of this new license, including defining what it means to be primarily engaged in supervising and training resident physicians.
