This bill amends the current law regarding the combined gross weight limit for vehicles operating under a fluid milk products annual permit in Iowa. Specifically, it allows the Department of Transportation (DOT) to issue permits for vehicles transporting fluid milk products that exceed the previous weight limitation of 96,000 pounds, now permitting a maximum gross weight of 130,000 pounds on primary roads and primary road extensions in cities. The bill maintains the existing axle weight limit of 20,000 pounds per axle as stipulated in Code section 321.463.

The applicability of this bill is effective for fluid milk products annual permits issued on or after the effective date of the bill, as well as for those permits that were issued prior to that date but remain in effect. The fee for obtaining a fluid milk products annual permit remains unchanged at $400. This legislative change aims to facilitate the transportation of fluid milk products while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
