The bill amends Iowa's unemployment benefits law by expanding the grounds for disqualification from benefits to include "any other remuneration in connection with separation from employment," in addition to existing categories such as wages in lieu of notice, separation allowance, severance pay, and dismissal pay. It also stipulates that if the total payment received in a week exceeds the unemployment benefits the individual would otherwise be entitled to, the benefits for subsequent weeks will be reduced by the amount of that payment until the total reductions equal the total payment received.

Furthermore, the bill clarifies that compensation for service-connected disabilities or accrued leave based on military service will not disqualify individuals from receiving unemployment benefits. It also specifies that no deductions will be made from benefits for individuals receiving federal social security pensions based on their contributions to the pension program. The provisions of this bill will apply to payments received on or after its effective date.
