The Core Curriculum Act mandates the state board of regents to establish general education requirements for undergraduate students at regents institutions. The requirements include specific coursework in areas such as English composition, world languages, mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, western heritage, and American heritage, with a total cap of 40 semester credit hours. Institutions are prohibited from creating additional general education requirements not explicitly authorized in the bill. The act also outlines provisions for transfer students and allows institutions to designate introductory courses that fulfill these requirements.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that courses meeting the general education requirements must not distort significant historical events or promote identity politics or theories suggesting systemic racism, sexism, oppression, or privilege in U.S. institutions. It ensures that academic freedom is maintained for instructors. Exceptions to the general education requirements are provided for degree programs of three years or less, and the board can waive requirements for complex fields. The act allows individuals to report potential violations to the attorney general, who can take action to enforce compliance. The provisions of this act will apply to students enrolling in regents institutions starting from the academic year beginning on or after July 1, 2027.
