This bill amends existing Iowa law to prohibit courts from ordering the payment of a postsecondary education subsidy for children in cases of dissolution of marriage. Specifically, it removes the provision that allowed either party to be required to pay such a subsidy under temporary orders or final judgments. The bill also updates the definition of "postsecondary education subsidy" by deleting references to the conditions under which it could be ordered, thereby eliminating the possibility of such financial obligations being imposed by the court.

Additionally, the bill clarifies that it applies to any support order, decree, or judgment that is entered or pending on or after July 1, 2025. Importantly, it stipulates that it will not affect any existing orders, decrees, or judgments that were established before this date, ensuring that those prior agreements remain intact and enforceable.
