This bill amends existing Iowa law to prohibit courts from ordering the payment of a postsecondary education subsidy as part of a temporary order or final judgment in dissolution of marriage cases. Specifically, it removes the provision that allowed either party to be required to pay such a subsidy for a child aged eighteen to twenty-two who is pursuing postsecondary education. The bill also updates the relevant sections of the Iowa Code to reflect this change, including the deletion of Section 598.21F, which previously addressed postsecondary education subsidies.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that it will apply to any support order, decree, or judgment that is entered or pending on or after July 1, 2025. Importantly, it clarifies that this new prohibition will not affect any existing orders, decrees, or judgments that were established before this date, meaning those prior agreements that include a postsecondary education subsidy will remain intact.
