This bill amends Section 23.7, subsection 1 of the Iowa Code to extend the timeframe for filing complaints with the Iowa public information board. Under the current law, individuals have 60 days to file a complaint after an alleged violation of open meetings or open records laws. The proposed change increases this period to 90 days, allowing complainants more time to submit their grievances.
Additionally, the bill maintains that all complaints filed with the board will remain public records. This amendment aims to enhance accessibility for aggrieved persons, taxpayers, and citizens of Iowa, as well as the attorney general and county attorneys, in addressing potential violations of transparency laws.
