This bill amends Iowa's current law regarding county recorder fees by increasing the fee for filing or recording documents from $5 to a flat fee of $10 per page. It also eliminates the existing county recorders records management fund and the county recorders electronic transaction fund, which were previously used for preserving public records and managing electronic transactions, respectively. The bill removes the ability for recorders to collect an additional $10 fee for accepting nonconforming documents.

Additionally, the bill includes a transition provision that stipulates any remaining funds in the county recorders records management fund must be used for purposes outlined in Code section 331.602, while any unencumbered funds in the local government electronic transaction fund will be transferred to the treasurer of state for payment of claims approved by the governing board of the county land record information system. Overall, the bill simplifies the fee structure and reallocates existing funds to streamline the management of county records.
