This bill amends the current law regarding payments to charter schools by a school district of residence for students enrolled in those schools. Specifically, it modifies Section 256E.8, subsection 2, paragraph a, to include the teacher salary supplement state cost per pupil as part of the total amount that a charter school receives for each student. This amount will now consist of the regular program state cost per pupil, the teacher leadership supplement, the professional development supplement, the early intervention supplement, and any applicable non-English speaking weighting, all multiplied by the state cost per pupil for the budget year. The bill is deemed to be of immediate importance, taking effect upon enactment, and will apply to school budget years beginning on or after July 1, 2025. This change aims to ensure that charter schools receive adequate funding that reflects the additional costs associated with teacher salaries, thereby supporting the educational needs of students enrolled in these institutions.
