This bill mandates that the state board of regents establish a policy ensuring that at least 80 percent of students accepted into the colleges of medicine, nursing, and dentistry at the University of Iowa are either residents of Iowa or individuals who were enrolled in an eligible postsecondary institution in Iowa prior to their application. This requirement aims to prioritize local students in these critical healthcare programs.

Additionally, the bill requires the University of Iowa, in collaboration with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, to submit an annual report to the general assembly. This report will provide detailed information about the residency status of graduates from the colleges of dentistry, nursing, and medicine, as well as the residency status of medical residents following their training. The report will include data on the states where graduates and residents reside after graduation or completion of their residency, categorized by their residency status at the time of application.
