This bill amends existing Iowa law to prohibit school districts, charter schools, and innovation zone schools from offering any programs, curricula, tests, surveys, questionnaires, promotions, or instruction related to gender identity or sexual orientation for students in grades seven through twelve. This extends the current prohibition that is already in place for students in kindergarten through grade six.

Additionally, the bill makes several amendments to existing sections of the Code of Iowa. Notably, it updates references to the requirements for health education and human growth and development instruction, ensuring that these subjects are taught in accordance with the new prohibition on gender identity and sexual orientation instruction. The amendments also clarify that compliance with these requirements applies to all educational institutions, including nonpublic schools, and specifies that the instruction in human growth and development must be age-appropriate and research-based.
