This bill amends Section 462A.12, subsection 4 of the Iowa Code, specifically regarding the use of blue lights on vessels operating in waters under the jurisdiction of the natural resource commission. Current law prohibits any vessel from displaying or reflecting a blue light or flashing blue light unless it is an authorized emergency vessel. The bill removes the prohibition on displaying or reflecting solid blue lights, while still maintaining the prohibition on flashing blue lights.
As a result of this amendment, vessels will now be allowed to display solid blue lights while operating in these waters, but they must still refrain from using flashing blue lights unless they are authorized emergency vessels. Violations of the remaining prohibition on flashing blue lights will continue to incur a scheduled fine of $35.
