This bill mandates that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reimburse counties at a rate of $50 per day for the temporary holding or confinement of sexually violent predators (SVPs) who commit a public offense while under a civil commitment order. The reimbursement applies when the SVP is transferred to a county jail after the offense and continues for each day the individual is confined there if sentenced to jail time.

Additionally, the bill specifies that HHS must utilize funds appropriated for the treatment and commitment of SVPs at the state mental health institute in Cherokee or funds transferred under Code section 218.6 to cover these reimbursements. This ensures that counties are financially supported for the costs incurred while housing SVPs during legal proceedings.
