This bill mandates the incorporation of specific provisions related to pregnancy and fetal development into the human growth and development and health curriculum for students in grades seven through twelve across various educational institutions, including school districts, accredited nonpublic schools, charter schools, and innovation zone schools. The curriculum for grades seven and eight must include instruction on human biology related to pregnancy and human development inside the womb, as well as a high-definition ultrasound video that lasts at least three minutes, showcasing the development of vital organs during early fetal development. Additionally, it requires a high-quality, computer-generated animation that illustrates the process of fertilization and the stages of human development inside the uterus, highlighting significant markers of pregnancy until birth.

Furthermore, the bill amends existing sections of the Code 2025 to ensure that the health education curriculum for grades nine through twelve also includes similar content regarding human biology and fetal development. The educational standards established in the bill will apply to the human growth and development curriculum for grades seven and eight and the health curriculum for grades nine through twelve, ensuring a comprehensive approach to teaching these topics in Iowa schools.
