This bill amends current law to allow students enrolled in nonpublic schools to participate in extracurricular interscholastic athletic contests or competitions provided by public schools. Specifically, it mandates that school districts permit students who reside within the district and are enrolled in a nonpublic school to compete in contests not offered by their nonpublic school, contingent upon an agreement between the school district and the nonpublic school regarding the student's eligibility. Additionally, students from contiguous school districts enrolled in nonpublic schools are also granted the same participation rights under similar conditions.

The bill stipulates that if a school district charges a fee for participation in these contests, the nonpublic school student or their parent/guardian is responsible for paying this fee, which cannot exceed the fee charged to students enrolled in the public school district. Furthermore, it clarifies that participation under these provisions satisfies the residence requirements for extracurricular activities and prohibits organizations from considering the number of nonpublic school participants when classifying public schools. The bill is effective immediately upon enactment.
