This bill amends the existing law regarding the attachment of territory from a school district that is undergoing an approved dissolution proposal. Currently, the law states that the attachment becomes effective on July 1 following the approval of the dissolution. The bill changes this to specify that the attachment will instead be effective on July 1 of the calendar year immediately following the calendar year in which the attachment was approved.
Additionally, the bill stipulates that if the dissolved school district has a certified enrollment of fewer than six hundred students, the territory may be eligible for a reduction in the foundation property tax levy, contingent upon approval from the director of the department of education. The bill also includes an applicability provision, stating that these changes will apply to dissolution propositions approved by voters on or after the effective date of the Act.
