This bill amends various sections of the Iowa Code to enhance the provision of information regarding immunization exemptions. It requires that information about exemptions and the requirements for obtaining them be included in public communications following immunization recommendations from the health department. This information must also be communicated to parents or legal guardians by schools and included on the websites and registration documentation of all elementary and secondary schools, as well as licensed child care centers. Additionally, child care facilities and homes are mandated to provide this information in their communications to parents or guardians.
Furthermore, the bill mandates the state board of education to adopt rules requiring school districts, accredited nonpublic schools, charter schools, and innovation zone schools to include exemption information in their communications related to immunizations. Community colleges and institutions of higher education are also required to adopt similar policies. The bill specifies that the costs associated with these mandates will be covered by state school foundation aid received by school districts, ensuring compliance with state funding requirements.
