HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 118
BY WHEELER, SHIPLEY, STONE, JENEARY, GEHLBACH, HOLT,
GERHOLD, WILLS, DUNWELL, FISHER, JOHNSON, BODEN,
YOUNG, MOORE, BOSSMAN, WILBURN, ANDREWS, SORENSEN,
and BLOOMINGDALE
1 A Resolution honoring the historic performance of the
2 Dordt University women’s basketball team.
3 WHEREAS, on March 26, 2024, the Dordt University
4 women’s basketball team defeated the University of
5 Providence to become the 2024 National Association
6 of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national
7 champions; and
8 WHEREAS, the Dordt University women’s basketball
9 team spent 11 weeks of the season ranked first in the
10 country and ended the season with a program-best 35-2
11 record; and
12 WHEREAS, Macy Sievers was named the most valuable
13 player of the NAIA women’s national championship
14 tournament by averaging 12.6 points, 6.8 assists, 6.3
15 rebounds, and 2.8 steals per game; and
16 WHEREAS, Karly Gustafson was given first-team
17 all-tournament honors and concluded her final season
18 with program records for career points (1,976) and
19 career rebounds (1,099); and
20 WHEREAS, Janie Schoonhoven received second-team
21 all-tournament honors and was awarded the tournament
22 hustle award, and Bailey Beckman finished her final
23 season with 1,887 career points and a program record
24 228 three-point field goals; and
25 WHEREAS, academics were very important to the team

1 evidenced by Bailey Beckman, Janie Schoonhoven, and
2 Macy Sievers being named a part of the College Sports
3 Communicators Academic All-District team; and
4 WHEREAS, head coach Bill Harmsen was honored as NAIA
5 2024 coach of the year; NOW THEREFORE,
6 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
7 That the House of Representatives honors the Dordt
8 University women’s basketball team for their
9 achievement as NAIA national champions; and
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon adoption, the
11 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall
12 transmit a copy of this resolution for presentation to
13 head coach Bill Harmsen, the Dordt University women’s
14 basketball team, and Dordt University President Erik
15 Hoekstra.
