T. TAYLOR, BOULTON, DONAHUE, DOTZLER, WAHLS,
TRONE GARRIOTT, BENNETT, SALMON, EDLER, COSTELLO,
KRAAYENBRINK, BISIGNANO, COURNOYER, EVANS, WEBSTER,
GRUENHAGEN, GARRETT, ALONS, GREEN, ZUMBACH,
SINCLAIR, J. TAYLOR, BOUSSELOT, KOELKER, DICKEY,
SHIPLEY, QUIRMBACH, SCHULTZ, ROWLEY, SWEENEY,
ROZENBOOM, BROWN, WHITVER, KNOX, ZAUN, McCLINTOCK,
and GIDDENS
1 A Resolution honoring Caitlin Clark on her
2 extraordinary achievements and the University of
3 Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team and coaching
4 staff for their outstanding performance.
5 WHEREAS, in her freshman season, Caitlin Clark led
6 the NCAA Division I in scoring and earned All-American
7 honors; and
8 WHEREAS, Caitlin Clark improved to such an extent
9 in her sophomore year that she became the first NCAA
10 women’s basketball player to lead the NCAA Division I
11 in both points and assists; and
12 WHEREAS, during Caitlin Clark’s junior year, she
13 led the University of Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball
14 team to the national championship game in spectacular
15 fashion, and ended the season winning all major
16 national player of the year awards; and
17 WHEREAS, on February 15, 2024, in a game against
18 the University of Michigan Wolverines, Caitlin Clark
19 scored a program record 49 points and broke the NCAA
20 Division I women’s basketball record for most career

1 points scored (3,527) as she led the Hawkeyes to a
2 106-89 victory; and
3 WHEREAS, on February 28, 2024, in a 108-60 victory
4 against the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers,
5 Caitlin Clark surpassed Lynette Woodard to become
6 the all-time leading scorer in major women’s college
7 basketball history, broke the record for the most
8 three-point field goals made in a single NCAA season,
9 and became the first Big 10 women’s player to record
10 more than 500 three-point field goals in a career; and
11 WHEREAS, on March 3, 2024, during a 93-83 victory
12 against the Ohio State Buckeyes, Caitlin Clark broke
13 the all-time NCAA scoring record held since 1970 by
14 Pete Maravich and now has a total of 3,685 points and
15 counting; and
16 WHEREAS, it is through teamwork of the University
17 of Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team and the
18 superlative coaching staff led by Coach Lisa Bluder
19 that these accomplishments are possible; and
20 WHEREAS, the University of Iowa Hawkeyes women’s
21 basketball program has served as an inspiration to
22 people nationwide, has elevated and grown women’s
23 basketball, and has brought honor to the state of
24 Iowa; NOW THEREFORE,
25 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate honors
26 Caitlin Clark for her outstanding athletic achievements
27 and looks forward to seeing Caitlin progress as one
28 of the most remarkable, hard-working, and talented
29 basketball players of all time; and
30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate honors the

1 University of Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team
2 for their regular season performance and wishes them
3 the best of luck as they enter the Big 10 and NCAA
4 tournaments; and
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage, the
6 Secretary of the Senate shall transmit a copy of this
7 resolution to Caitlin Clark, Coach Lisa Bluder, the
8 University of Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team,
9 Beth Goetz, athletic director, and the president of the
10 University of Iowa, Barbara Wilson.
