1 A Resolution honoring and congratulating Caitlin
2 Clark for her extraordinary accomplishments and
3 establishing February 22, 2024, as Caitlin Clark day
4 in the state of Iowa.
5 WHEREAS, West Des Moines native and Dowling Catholic
6 alumnus Caitlin Clark began her university basketball
7 career at the University of Iowa; and
8 WHEREAS, she set two University of Iowa records
9 during the 2023 season for most points scored in a
10 season (1,055) and most assists in a single season
11 (327); and
12 WHEREAS, she broke two NCAA records for most

13 three-point field goals in a single tournament (24) and
14 most points scored in a single tournament (191), and
15 became the first college basketball player to score
16 41 points in a triple-double effort during the NCAA
17 tournament; and
18 WHEREAS, she and her teammates have won two
19 Big Ten Championships and were the 2023 national
1 runners-up; and
2 WHEREAS, she became the first basketball player in
3 NCAA history to have both scored over 3,000 points and
4 have 1,000 assists; and
5 WHEREAS, on February 15, 2024, during the University
6 of Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team’s 106 to 89
7 victory over the University of Michigan Wolverines,
8 Caitlin Clark made history when she scored 49 points,
9 simultaneously setting the single-game point record for
10 University of Iowa women’s basketball and becoming the
11 most prolific scorer in NCAA women’s basketball history
12 with a total of 3,569 career points; and
13 WHEREAS, her remarkable display of athletic talent
14 has brought nationwide attention to women’s basketball
15 as evidenced by the sold out arenas and record-breaking
16 television viewership whenever she plays; and
17 WHEREAS, Caitlin Clark’s extraordinary journey
18 with the Hawkeyes has helped advance women’s sports
19 throughout the world; NOW THEREFORE,
20 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
21 That the House of Representatives honors Caitlin
22 Clark as one of the greatest collegiate athletes of
23 all time and a prime example of the pinnacle of Iowa

24 sportsmanship and athleticism, and eagerly awaits her
25 future accomplishments; and
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of
27 Representatives honors Hawkeye guard number 22, Caitlin
28 Clark, by declaring February 22, 2024, as Caitlin Clark
29 day in the state of Iowa; and
30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon adoption, the
1 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall
2 prepare an official copy of this resolution for
3 presentation to Caitlin Clark, Head Coach Lisa Bluder,
4 and the University of Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball
5 team.
