1 An Act requiring the department of natural resources to conduct
2 a study related to pelican predation.
3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 Section 1. PELICAN STUDY. The department of natural
2 resources shall conduct a one-year study of pelican predation
3 in Iowa’s inland waterways, the Mississippi river, and on
4 private farm ponds. In conducting the study, the department
5 shall consult with the United States army corps of engineers,
6 the United States fish and wildlife service, and local,
7 state, and federal elected representatives. The department
8 shall submit a report of the study’s findings and make
9 recommendations to the general assembly by December 1, 2025.
10 EXPLANATION
11 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
12 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
13 This bill requires the department of natural resources
14 to conduct a one-year study investigating pelican predation
15 in Iowa’s inland waterways, the Mississippi river, and on
16 private farm ponds. The department shall consult with the
17 United States army corps of engineers, the United States fish
18 and wildlife service, and local, state, and federal elected
19 representatives over the span of the study. The department
20 shall submit a report of the study’s findings and make
21 recommendations to the general assembly by December 1, 2025.
