1 Section 1. Section 331.304, subsection 13, Code 2024, is
2 amended by striking the subsection.
3 Sec. 2. Section 364.3, subsection 16, Code 2024, is amended
4 by striking the subsection.
5 EXPLANATION
6 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
7 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
8 This bill relates to county and city regulation of rental
9 housing and federal housing choice voucher use. Under current
10 law, a county or a city shall not adopt or enforce an ordinance
11 or regulation that prohibits a person having the right to
12 lease, sublease, or rent out a dwelling unit from refusing
13 to rent a dwelling out to a person because the person is
14 using a federal housing choice voucher. A “dwelling unit”
15 means a structure or the part of a structure that is used as
16 a home, residence, or sleeping place. The bill strikes this
17 prohibition on counties and cities.
