2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 Section 1. Section 602.6105, subsection 1, Code 2024, is
2 amended to read as follows:
3 1. Courts shall be held at the places in each county
4 maintaining space for the district court as designated by the
5 chief judge of the judicial district, or held by remote means
6 of communication, except that the determination of actions,
7 special proceedings, and other matters not requiring a jury may
8 be done at some other place in the district with the consent of
9 the parties. For the purposes of this subsection, contiguous
10 counties which have entered into an agreement to share costs
11 pursuant to section 331.381, subsection 16, paragraph “b”,
12 shall be considered as one unit for the purpose of conducting
13 all matters except as otherwise provided in this subsection.
14 EXPLANATION
15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
16 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
17 This bill authorizes court proceedings to be held by remote
18 means of communication.
