2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 Section 1. Section 481C.2A, subsection 5, paragraph b, Code
2 2024, is amended to read as follows:
3 b. In addition to other times the department finds
4 necessary, the department shall allow licenses and permits
5 issued pursuant to this section to be used in the months of
6 September, October, November, and December. Additionally,
7 the department shall allow licenses issued pursuant to this
8 section to be used in any county during the same time period
9 as the January antlerless deer only hunting season established
10 pursuant to section 483A.8, subsection 9, even if the county
11 in which the license is used does not qualify for the January
12 antlerless deer only hunting season.
13 EXPLANATION
14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
15 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
16 This bill relates to the use of deer depredation licenses.
17 Current law requires the department of natural resources (DNR)
18 to allow deer depredation licenses to be used in the months of
19 September, October, November, and December. The bill requires
20 DNR to also allow the use of deer depredation licenses in any
21 county during the same time period as the January antlerless
22 deer only hunting season established pursuant to Code section
23 483A.8(9), even if the county in which the license is used
24 does not qualify for the January antlerless deer only hunting
25 season.
