1 An Act relating to the provision of information relating to
2 school immunization exemptions.
3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 Section 1. Section 139A.8, subsection 4, Code 2024, is
2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
3 NEW PARAGRAPH. c. Information regarding exemptions and
4 the requirements for an exemption under this subsection
5 shall be included in any public communication following the
6 recommendation of an immunization by the department pursuant to
7 subsection 2, shall be included in any communication regarding
8 immunizations to a parent or legal guardian from a school nurse
9 as defined in section 256.11, and shall be published on the
10 internet sites of and included in registration documentation
11 for all elementary schools, secondary schools, and licensed
12 child care centers.
13 EXPLANATION
14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
15 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
16 This bill amends Code section 139A.8 (immunization of
17 children) to require that information regarding exemptions
18 and the requirements for an exemption shall be included in
19 any public communication following the recommendation of an
20 immunization by the department of health and human services,
21 shall be included in any communication regarding immunizations
22 to a parent or legal guardian from a school nurse, and shall be
23 published on the internet sites of and included in registration
24 documentation for all elementary schools, secondary schools,
25 and licensed child care centers.
