1 Section 1. Section 272.31, subsection 1, Code 2023, is
2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
3 NEW PARAGRAPH. c. To renew a coaching authorization, an
4 applicant shall be required to complete a course of training
5 relating to concussions.
6 EXPLANATION
7 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
8 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
9 This bill requires an applicant for the renewal of a coaching
10 authorization issued by the board of educational examiners
11 to complete a course of training relating to concussions. A
12 coaching authorization is valid for five years. Under current
13 rules adopted by the board of educational examiners, the
14 renewal of a coaching authorization requires annual concussion
15 training.
