1 Section 1. Section 282.18, subsection 8, paragraph b, Code
2 2023, is amended to read as follows:
3 b. A receiving district may send school vehicles into the
4 district of residence of the pupil using the open enrollment
5 option under this section, for the purpose of transporting the
6 pupil to and from school in the receiving district, if the
7 boards of both the sending and receiving districts agree to
8 this arrangement.
9 EXPLANATION
10 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
11 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
12 This bill relates to the transportation to and from school
13 of pupils participating in open enrollment. Current law
14 authorizes a receiving school district to send school vehicles
15 into the district of residence of a pupil who open enrolls,
16 for the purpose of transporting the pupil to and from school
17 in the receiving school district, if the boards of directors
18 of the sending school district and receiving school district
19 agree to this arrangement. The bill strikes the requirement
20 that the boards of directors of the sending school district and
21 receiving school district agree to the arrangement.
