A BILL FOR
1 An Act relating to the tuition and fees community colleges and
2 state universities charge to former crew members of any
3 United States navy vessel named for the state of Iowa.
4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 Section 1. Section 260C.14, subsection 14, Code 2023, is
2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
3 NEW PARAGRAPH. c. Adopt rules to classify as a resident for
4 purposes of tuition and mandatory fees any former crew member
5 of any United States navy vessel named for the state of Iowa
6 who was discharged from the navy under honorable conditions.
7 Sec. 2. Section 262.9, subsection 17, Code 2023, is amended
8 by adding the following new paragraph:
9 NEW PARAGRAPH. c. Adopt rules to classify as a resident for
10 purposes of tuition and mandatory fees any former crew member
11 of any United States navy vessel named for the state of Iowa
12 who was discharged from the navy under honorable conditions.
13 EXPLANATION
14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
15 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
16 This bill relates to the tuition and fees community colleges
17 and state universities charge to former crew members of any
18 United States navy vessel named for the state of Iowa.
19 The bill requires the boards of directors of each community
20 college and the state board of regents to adopt rules to
21 classify as residents for purposes of tuition and mandatory
22 fees former crew members of any United States navy vessel named
23 for the state of Iowa who were discharged from the navy under
24 honorable conditions.
