1 An Act relating to licensure renewal requirements adopted by
2    rule by the board of educational examiners.
3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

 1      Section 1. Section 272.2, subsection 1, Code 2021, is
 2   amended by adding the following new paragraph:
 3      NEW PARAGRAPH. c. Rules adopted pursuant to this subsection
 4   establishing licensure renewal requirements shall provide that
 5   up to half of the units needed for licensure renewal may be
 6   earned upon the successful completion of an individualized
 7   professional development plan as verified by the supervising
 8   licensed evaluator or by successful completion of professional
 9   development courses or programs offered by a professional
10   development program licensed by the board, or by a practitioner
11   preparation institution or area education agency approved by
12   the state board of education.
13                             EXPLANATION
14           The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
15            the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
16      This bill requires that rules adopted by the board of
17   educational examiners which establish licensure renewal
18   requirements must provide that up to half of the units needed
19   for licensure renewal may be earned by successfully completing
20   an individualized professional development plan as verified
21   by the supervising licensed evaluator, or by successfully
22   completing professional development courses or programs offered
23   by a professional development program licensed by the board,
24   or by a practitioner preparation institution or area education
25   agency approved by the state board of education.
