3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

1 Section 1. Section 542B.14, subsection 1, paragraph a,
2 subparagraph (4), Code 2021, is amended to read as follows:
3 (4) Successfully passing an examination designed to
4 determine the proficiency and qualifications to engage in the
5 practice of engineering. No applicant shall be entitled to
6 take this examination until the applicant shows the necessary
7 practical experience in engineering work.
8 EXPLANATION
9 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
10 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
11 This bill eliminates the requirement that applicants for
12 licensure as a professional engineer show necessary practical
13 experience in engineering work prior to taking an examination
14 designed to determine their proficiency and qualifications to
15 engage in the practice of engineering. The bill does not alter
16 other experience requirements applicable to such applicants.
