1 Section 1. Section 483A.8, subsection 6, Code 2021, is
2 amended to read as follows:
3 6. The commission shall provide by rule for the annual
4 issuance to a nonresident of a nonresident antlerless deer
5 hunting license that is valid for use only during the period
6 beginning on December 24 and ending at sunset on January 2 of
7 the following year and costs an amount established by rules
8 adopted pursuant to section 483A.1. A nonresident hunting deer
9 with a license issued under this subsection shall be otherwise
10 qualified to hunt deer in this state and shall purchase a
11 nonresident annual hunting license that includes the wildlife
12 habitat fee, and pay the one dollar fee for the purpose of
13 deer herd population management as provided in subsection
14 3. In addition to other methods of take that the commission
15 authorizes for the season, the commission shall authorize a
16 nonresident hunting deer with a license issued under this
17 subsection to use a bow, muzzleloader, handgun, shotgun, or
18 rifle firing straight wall ammunition. Pursuant to this
19 subsection, the commission shall make available for issuance
20 only the remaining nonresident antlerless deer hunting licenses
21 allocated under subsection 3 that have not yet been issued for
22 the current year’s nonresident antlerless deer hunting seasons.
23 EXPLANATION
24 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
25 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
26 This bill relates to methods of take allowed during the
27 nonresident antlerless deer holiday season.
28 Current law creates a nonresident antlerless deer hunting
29 season that begins on December 24 and ends on January 2. The
30 natural resource commission currently allows a nonresident
31 hunting with a license valid for the nonresident antlerless
32 deer holiday season to hunt using a bow, muzzleloader, or
33 handgun. The bill requires the commission to authorize
34 a nonresident hunting deer with a license valid for the
35 nonresident antlerless deer holiday season to hunt with a bow,

1 muzzleloader, handgun, shotgun, or rifle firing straight wall
2 ammunition, in addition to any other methods of take that the
3 commission authorizes for the season.
