HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

Honoring dr. david lassner for a lifetime of dedicated service to the university of hawai i system and the state and recognizing his enduring legacy of leadership and contributions to support higher education, community engagement, and the public good.

 

 

 

     WHEREAS, DR. DAVID LASSNER devoted nearly five decades of service to the University of Hawai i System, contributing to the institution as a staff member, an executive, and president; and

 

     WHEREAS, throughout his long and distinguished career, DR. DAVID LASSNER played a central role in advancing the University of Hawai i's core mission, promoting academic excellence, and providing opportunities for generations of students to pursue higher education; and

 

     WHEREAS, as president of the University of Hawai i System, DR. DAVID LASSNER provided steady, principled leadership, guiding a complex, multi-campus system through periods of transformation, challenge, and growth, while remaining grounded and respectful toward students, faculty, and staff; and

 

     WHEREAS, DR. DAVID LASSNER championed innovation in teaching, research, and technology, expanded the university's global and Pacific Region engagement, and strengthened its commitment to equity, inclusion, and Native Hawaiian advancement; and

 

     WHEREAS, DR. DAVID LASSNER's leadership during moments of extraordinary adversity, including natural disasters, economic uncertainty, and a global pandemic, reflected a profound sense of responsibility, compassion, and dedication to assisting the people and communities served by the University of Hawai i System; and

 

     WHEREAS, the impact of DR. DAVID LASSNER's nearly fifty-year career is reflected not only in his many institutional accomplishments, but also in the countless lives shaped by his mentorship, integrity, and steadfast commitment to public service and higher education in Hawai i; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-third Legislature of the State of Hawai i, Regular Session of 2026, that this body hereby honors DR. DAVID LASSNER for a lifetime of dedicated service to the University of Hawai i System and the State and recognizes his enduring legacy of leadership and contributions to support higher education, community engagement, and the public good.
