HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

congratulating landon mcnamara for winning the 11th eddie aikau big wave invitational.

 

 

 

     WHEREAS, the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational began in 1984 to honor the life and legacy of Waimea Bay and North Shore's first lifeguard, Edward Ryon Makuahanai "Eddie" Aikau, who courageously risked his life to rescue over 500 people throughout his legendary career and ensure the safety and survival of beachgoers in Hawai i; and

 

     WHEREAS, billed as the "Super Bowl of Surfing," the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational celebrates the spirit of surfing as brave competitors who face some of the most formidable waves on the planet; this event is held only when wave heights at Waimea Bay are expected to consistently be at least 40 feet; and

 

     WHEREAS, LANDON MCNAMARA received an invite from the Aikau family to compete in the 11th Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational that took place on Sunday, December 22, 2024, in Waimea Bay, O ahu; and

 

     WHEREAS, on the day of the competition, LANDON MCNAMARA overcame injuries and fatigue and used his exceptional athletic ability, knowledge, and expertise in surfing to accomplish his childhood dream of winning the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational; and

 

     WHEREAS, LANDON MCNAMARA, a true son of the North Shore, etched his name into the history books with a spectacular performance that will be remembered for years to come, accumulating a three-wave total of 135.80 points, including a perfect 50-point ride in the second round, securing his place among the legends of the sport; and

 

     WHEREAS, in addition to his surfing accolades, LANDON MCNAMARA is also an accomplished musician who utilizes his platform to inspire others to dream big, work hard, and ride life's biggest waves; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-third Legislature of the State of Hawai i, Regular Session of 2025, that this body hereby congratulates LANDON MCNAMARA for winning the 11th Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational and extends to him its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
