Your Committee on Economic Development E~ Technology, to which
was referred H.R. No. 151 entitled:
“HOUSE RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE HAWAII TECHNOLOGY
DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION TO INCREASE ITS FOCUS ON ADVANCED
MANUFACTURING AND CYBERSECURITY TO BUILD A STRONGER,
DIVERSIFIED ECONOMY, CREATE HIGH-WAGE JOB OPPORTUNITIES, AND
POSITION HAWAII AS A LEADER IN INNOVATION AND NATIONAL
SECURITY IN THE PACIFIC,”
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to request the Hawaii
Technology Development Corporation to increase its focus on
advanced manufacturing and cybersecurity to build a stronger,
diversified economy, create high—wage job opportunities, and
position Hawaii as a leader in innovation and national security in
the Pacific.
Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure
from the Hawai’i Technology Development Corporation and Hawaii
Military Affairs Council. Your Committee received comments on
this measure from the Department of Business, Economic
Development, and Tourism.
Your Committee finds that advanced manufacturing can benefit
Hawaii’s local businesses by enhancing efficiency, improving
product quality, and reducing manufacturing costs. Your Committee

further finds that it is imperative to ensure that local
businesses are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to
protect against cybersecurity threats. This measure encourages
the Hawaii Technology Development Corporation to increase its
focus on initiatives related to advanced manufacturing and
cybersecurity.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Economic Development & Technology that is attached to
this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of
H.R. No. 151 and recommends its adoption.
