SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
 
 
Requesting the University of Hawaii to transfer the School of Travel Industry Management from the University of Hawaii at MAnoa to the University of Hawaii - West Oahu.
 
 
        WHEREAS, the School of Travel Industry Management in the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Shidler College of Business was once ranked among the top twenty college programs in the nation for hospitality management; and
 
        WHEREAS, in 2022, the School of Travel Industry Management had dropped in ranking to being among the top fifty college programs in the nation for hospitality management; and
 
        WHEREAS, the University of Hawaii - West Oahu was developed to address workforce needs and leverage modern technologies to train the next generation of community leaders; and
 
        WHEREAS, the University of Hawaii - West Oahu is the fastest growing campus within the University of Hawaii system; and
 
        WHEREAS, there is a growing need for employees in the hospitality industry on the Leeward Coast of Oahu as more hotels develop in that region; now, therefore,
 
        BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2023, the House of Representatives concurring, that the University of Hawaii is requested to transfer the School of Travel Industry Management from the University of Hawaii at Manoa to the University of Hawaii - West Oahu; and
 
        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President of the University of Hawaii System.
