STAND. CON. REP. NO.

RE: H.C.R. No. 151
Honorable Scott K. Saiki
Speaker, House of Representatives
Thirty—Second State Legislature
Regular Session of 2023
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Transportation, to which was referred
H.C.R. No. 151 entitled:
“HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION URGING THE FEDERAL AVIATION
ADMINISTRATION AND HAWAII’S CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO TAKE
ANY ACTIONS NECESSARY TO ESTABLISH AN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL
TOWER AT LANAI AIRPORT,”
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to urge the Federal Aviation
Administration and Hawaii’s Congressional Delegation to take any
actions necessary to establish an air traffic control tower at
Lanai airport.
Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure
from the Department of Transportation and two individuals.
Your Committee finds that as general aviation and commercial
aircraft traffic increase concurrently, managing and separating
air traffic flows becomes increasingly important. Despite serving
one hundred thousand passengers during 2022, Lanai Airport lacks
an air traffic control tower. Your Committee therefore finds that
the establishment of an air traffic control tower at Lanai Airport
is necessary to ensure the safe, orderly, and efficient flow of
air traffic on and around the airport.
