Your Committee on Judiciary & Hawaiian Affairs, to which was
referred H.R. No. 126 entitled:
“HOUSE RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF HAWAIIAN HOME
LANDS TO IDENTIFY RESOURCES NEEDED TO EXECUTE A PLAN TO
REPAIR HOMES FOR SAFE HABITATION,”
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to request the Department of
Hawaiian Home Lands to identify resources needed to execute a plan
to repair homes for safe habitation.
Your Committee received testimony on this measure with
comments from the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. Your
Committee received testimony in support from one individual.
Your Committee finds that properties in already-developed
communities may be unoccupied for various reasons, including a
pending transfer or the inability of lessees to afford to maintain
the home, thereby rendering the home unlivable or unsafe.
Unoccupied properties, if repaired, have the potential to house
the existing lessees or new lessees of the Department of Hawaiian
Home Lands.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Judiciary & Hawaiian Affairs that is attached to this
