This bill amends section 943.03102 of the Florida Statutes to provide exemptions from public records and public meetings requirements for certain information held by the Chief of Domestic Security. Specifically, it exempts any information that could reveal critical state or national security details, including notifications regarding the designation of organizations as foreign or domestic terrorist entities. The bill stipulates that such information is not subject to the public records law (s. 119.07(1) and s. 24(a), Art. I of the State Constitution) and that portions of meetings revealing this information are also exempt from public meeting laws (s. 286.011 and s. 24(b), Art. I of the State Constitution).
Additionally, the bill includes a public necessity statement emphasizing the importance of safeguarding this information to protect state and national security interests. It establishes that these exemptions will be subject to review under the Open Government Sunset Review Act and will automatically repeal on October 2, 2031, unless the Legislature reenacts them. The act is contingent upon the passage of related legislation in the same session.
